Phablets are a cross hibernation of a mobile phone and a tablet (get it?). They provide the technical capabilities of a mobile phone with the physical experiences that a tablet offers. They are designed for ultimate productivity, making it a good on-the-go device for field reps using SalesKit. However, is screen size crucial in generating a fabulous phablet?

As a Texas native, I was raised on the ideology that “bigger is better”. This explains our monstrous intake of beef, triple-jumbo sized margaritas, and massive football stadiums. Therefore, when researching phablets, the Texan-version of mobile phones, I naturally inclined that the bigger the screen size, the better. With the help of Pocket-lint’s guide to the best tablets of 2014, let’s look at three of the most popular tablets to uncover what traits make a fabulous phablet.

Galaxy Mega & Galaxy Note (2 & 3) The Galaxy Mega marries big screen size with a low price. The screen size is definitely mega: a 6.3-inch display, 167.6 x 88 x 8mm body, and a weight of 199g. To some, the size of this large phone might be unmanageable even with the price. Furthermore, the phone features don’t justify putting up with the massive size.

The Galaxy Note 2 & 3 are smaller than the Mega and carry more impressive traits. The 5.5-inch screen display size of the Note 2 is not overwhelming. The 2013 model, the Note 3, is larger with a 5.7-inch display that carries a lot of power through the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset and 3GB of Ram. However, the real fabulosity behind the Galaxy Note phablets is the writing ability, for note-taking needs, through the use of the stylus.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra If size is the ultimate deciding factor, than the Sony Xperia Z Ultra triumphs. Coming in at a whopping 6.4-inches of full HD display and 212g of weight, this phablet delivers the big screen promise. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM and has pen support for writing, even though it’s not as sophisticated as the Galaxy Note’s. However, if your business needs require a lot of media work, then this is the perfect phablet. If not, then the size does matter in this instance for it’s a monster.

Nokia Lumia 1520 According to Pocket-lint, the Nokia Lumia 1520 is not only the best Windows Phone 8 phablet out there, but also the best Windows Phone 8 device period. This is because of the new platform used by Nokia to stack additional apps, like the Black OS, and it’s impressive physical features: 6-inch screen complete with full HD IPS display, amazing camera, and excessive power run by the Snapdragon S800 processor and 2GB of RAM. If your looking to go big, and retain impressive features, this is the phablet for your business needs.

All in all, screen size and how well a phablets phone-driven features carry over do matter. The most crucial element is how well the hybrid applications of both phone and tablet are manifested in the device and how easy it is to use. Furthermore, if the device will be used for personal or business use plays a big role, as well as user preference.
