I suppose it was only a matter of time before the Cloud went hybrid. With an unsettled debate over public vs. private, this new and improved Cloud model encompasses what many would agree to be the best of both worlds.

This latest technology update was highlighted in the BCW article, “Best of Breed with the Best of Both Clouds.” In the article, author Ian Wells discusses the increased functionality that the hybrid Cloud brings, as well as its inevitable limitations and concerns.

The number of Cloud users has soared among organizations both big and small. While public advocates gleam over its scalability and flexibility, private promoters are drawn in by its security and manageability. The hybrid model boasts all of these features, making it hugely attractive to all Cloud users across the board. In the article, Wells even cites a Gartner Special Report, predicting that “by 2017, half of large enterprises will use hybrid cloud.”

While the hybrid model certainly packs in the benefits of its predecessors, it’s important to question its pre-existing drawbacks. While large-scale private deployments have been deemed costly, public clouds have been criticized for their lack of security. How are these issues addressed in the newest Cloud design?

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a completely safe Cloud system. No matter how many advances are made, there will always be errors, bugs, and fixes. However, each new model brings bigger advantages than before. Cloud computing has played a key role in creating a more responsive and engaging environment within the competitive business market. As Wells puts it, “the movement and integration between private and public clouds is what will bring out true value of the hybrid model”

What are the various advantages and disadvantages your organization sees in Cloud systems?
