Mediafly Product Update Q3 2012

By Jason Shah | October 19, 2012

Welcome to the Mediafly Product Update Q3 2012. In this post, we will cover new features to the entire Mediafly Platform made available over the third quarter of 2012. If you are an existing customer and have any questions, or want to learn more about how Mediafly’s Solutions can help your business, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

App improvements

iPad and iPhone

A number of significant new features were released last quarter.

Real-time, offline search

Mediafly’s platform provides a flexible, infinitely deep hierarchy for customers to organize their media. But navigating to find media isn’t always the best approach. Some customers host over 3000 items in the Mediafly system, and finding that content requires significant effort.  To help solve this issue, we have released real-time, offline search for iPhone and iPad (with Android coming soon).

In the upper right of your app, notice the search bar.  Tap on it…

… and the bar expands to the full width.  Type…

iOS realtime search 2

… and search results immediately appear, in real time. These results work even while you are offline as well.

Rich annotations

ProReview is already a fantastic screening solution. Our Entertainment customers attest to that. But we want to provide more solutions for more customers. One frequent request from users that we’ve heard often is “how can I provide comments on a video?”.

With ProReview for iOS, users can annotate a video frame.

After annotating, the frame can be emailed.

We plan to dramatically increase this functionality over the coming quarters to support better annotation tools, secure commenting, and timecode syncing. We also plan to support Flash Player and Android.

There are a number of other improvements for both SalesKit and ProReview customers to our iOS apps that we are happy to demonstrate to our customers and prospects, including:

Web Player

A number of deep performance improvements were made to the Mediafly web players. These include significant enhancements to the underlying framework to dramatically improve speed and stability. Additionally, Flash Player now collects debugging information to assist us in solving tricky playback issues should they arise.

Platform improvements

Airship

As you may have read we have launched Airship, Mediafly’s beautiful new web-based Content Management System (CMS). Airship reflects 9 months of effort and collaboration with multiple key customers. Airship enables our customers to organize media and metadata with ease, while also tying into existing enterprise content management systems. This hybrid approach will provide fantastic flexibility and reduce the Total Cost of Ownership of the Mediafly solution.

And stay tuned! There is more to come.

User Manager

User Manager 1For many of our customers, managing users is as important as managing media. The Mediafly User Manager has been in use by our largest customer for over a year now.

The User Manager provides an easy way for customers to create, delete and edit users. Administrators can easily assign and revoked rights to specific content with a few clicks of the mouse.

User Manager 2The User Manager also gives the administrator the ability to organizer users into Roles. Each Role can be assigned/revoked rights to content as well. This allows admins to temporarily assign and move users into different roles easily and consistently.

Finally, Admins can delegate administration rights to sections of the library to other users. This allows a delegated administrator to manage content access for their sections. This distribution mechanism has been a powerful tool in enabling our enterprise customer to scale out to multiple thousands of users while maintaining control of content on behalf of the rightsholders.

We plan to continue investment into the User Manager, and eventually roll User Manager and Airship into a single, unified interface.
