About Web Browsers as a platform

Mediafly first began to enable web browsers as a platform for delivery in 2007, and Adobe Flash was the first target.  Adobe Flash is installed on over 97% of all PCs.  It is the dominant, industry-leading platform for distributing rich applications and video.  In addition, Flash Lite, an embedded version of Flash, powers a large number of connected devices.  If you are looking to distribute your video to PCs today, Flash is a must-have technology in your arsenal.  Mediafly began production of its Flash Player in 2007, and it continues to be the most widely used Mediafly delivery platform today.

In 2011, Mediafly began to adopt HTML5 as a technology for delivery.  HTML5 is the latest variant of the HTML language specification, and HTML5 in particular introduced video and audio playback capabilities that are built into the browser.  Flash is no longer required, but in some cases explicitly not supported, for video and audio playback.

What can we do?

With Mediafly's "Apps as a Managed Service" approach, we create the apps and updates and manage deployments for you. Because Flash and HTML5 are two of our premier platforms, we have a large number of user features and security enhancements built into the apps.  And, with our Rapid Deployment technology, we are able to make your Web Player build ready within days in most cases.  Standard features include:

  • A fully branded Web Player (Flash with fallback to HTML5) that can be embedded into your pages with no more than 10 lines of pre-defined code.
  • Authentication. We offer multiple formats of authentication for your apps: single password, username/password, username/password/PIN
  • Encryption. We can provide your videos using industry-leading DRM, with the RTMP-E encryption mechanism
  • Security. Our token-based technology ensures that only our Mediafly-built web players will have access to your content.
  • Live streaming events. Want to host a live streaming event through your Web Player?  With Mediafly, you can do so easily.
  • User-level analytics. Identify strong and weak videos, and learn more about how your users experience your media.
