It's project time for me again. Between my day job and working on the Blog Oklahoma network, I've run out of time. But that's no excuse for missing a podcast more than one week in a row. So I think its time for another music spectacular, where we listen back to some of the best music played over the last few episodes of the Blog Oklahoma Podcast. So sit back, enjoy, and have a great week.

Did everyone catch the forecast for this week? It's seven days of temperatures above the century mark. So please everyone if you have to be outside, stay safe, some people can develop symptoms of heat stroke suddenly and without warning, if you feel even slightly dizzy, fatigued, or queasy, stop what you are doing and get cooled off. And also please remember to bring your pets inside, they don't need to be out in 100 degree any more than you do.

Hey everyone. Sorry I couldn't get a podcast out last week. I just got tangled up in other projects to properly work on one. To make up for it, I'm starting to roll out few new segments to the podcast that I hope you'll enjoy. But before we begin I'd like to congratulate Jari Askins and Mary Fallin on winning their respective primaries. I'm really looking forward to this year's governors race. I'd also like to remind everyone the run off election is coming up in a few short weeks on August 24th. Check with your local county elections board for details. To all the other politicians, parties, and pundits: you can stop calling my house now. Stupid robocalls.

It's just too hot, too dusty, and too cat infested at the home office right now to do a podcast. So I brought my podcasting equipment down to the small cold dark north facing windowless office, all in the hopes I can do at least an adequate job in a cool cat free environment.
For those of you unfamiliar with the small cold dark north facing windowless office, it's my day job office. It's a small office located on the north side of the building and I have no windows. In the winter time the Oklahoma wind howls, and it makes this office ever so cold. Plus I have a light that's going out, so it's dark. Thus it's a small cold dark north facing windowless office.
I don't think I'll make it a habit to record here, but at least for the time being it will have to do.
I would like to remind everyone to go vote on Tuesday July 27th for the Oklahoma Primary Election. Polls are open from 7 AM to 7 PM. Even if you are not registered Republican or Democrat, I would encourage you to stop by your polling place, you may have a local election you can participate in. If you are unsure where your polling place is, contact your local county elections board. You can find its number in the phone book or by visiting OK.gov/elections.

I'm back from vacation, I'm recording on a new day, and I've got a couple of new side project in the works that I'm excited to tell you about soon.  Needless to say I'm relaxed, reenergized, and raring to go.  Oh and you'll probably hear the air conditioner running in the background during this weeks podcast. It was like 95 degrees here in my home office. Too hot, too humid, and so July.

So I was reviewing my family’s schedule for the rest of the summer and discovered my weekends are just full. If it’s not family trips, its time needed to work on the house and yard. I also found over my vacation last week that it was nice to be away from the keyboard, even for just a couple of days. So I’ve made the decision to reschedule when I record the Blog Oklahoma Podcast. Upon review, the best time to record is Wednesday night.
There are several benefits to this time shift for me, and I don’t believe this move will interfere with anyone’s listening habits. I looked over the stats the other day, and most of the listens happen much later in the week.
If you have any thoughts on my schedule change, please feel free to contact me. Your feedback is always welcome.

I've been watch several World Cup matches over the last week or so and I've discovered something. They're 90 minutes long. So I've had to do something to keep my American short attention span in check. I've found on a few broadcasts I can switch language feeds. The other day I watched an entire match in German. Very entertaining. Oh wait a moment, something missing. I'm talking about World Cup and it's not sounding right. Luckily there is an app for that. I don't know how I've ever enjoyed listening to sports with out the constant drone of angry bees. Now with this handy iPhone app I can enjoy the vuvuzela anytime I want to liven up a sporting event like oh say the U.S. Open.

Did you know it now only takes 2 minutes to make popcorn. I don't know why I brought that up. It's probably because I've only had a grilled cheese sandwich today and I guess I'm hungry. It's amazing though in roughly 2 minutes I can enjoy some hot buttery popcorn. I'm just old enough to remember it use to take 3 1/2 minutes, and you use to have to stand by the microwave and listen for it to stop popping or it would burn. I can remember many a day at the office when the smell of burnt popcorn wafted down the hallways. Luckily those days are gone now that popcorn technology gotten us to 2 minutes. I'm gonna go get some popcorn.

As many of you already know its storm season here in Oklahoma. I hope everyone is safe and sound, and my prayers go to all to stay safe, and to everyone already effected by the recent storms. If you haven't yet, I'd advise you get a storm kit together. A storm kit consists basic first aid supplies among other important items you'll need just in case the worse happens. Now we keep a bag near the door so we can quickly grab it if we have to leave for the shelter. In it well keep a flashlight, a small first aid kit, our checkbooks, a weeks worth of medication, a phone charger, a weather radio, and a change of socks. That's just little an example. I suggest you visit ready.gov and read up on what you should have in a storm kit. I'll have a link in the show notes.

The recent spring time rains and high winds brought with them our old friends dust, mold, and pollen. That's right allergy season has finally hit the Latham household. Have you ever seen a family of three sneezing at the same time, it's kind of cool in a miserable kind of way. So its been a weekend of sticky red eyes, running noses, sneezing, coughing and a general lack of energy to do anything besides watch TV in a Benadryl haze. Fun times to say the lest.

It's been one of those weeks. I am mentally tired right now. Besides working on the Blog Oklahoma clean up, it's been 'Get It Done' time at the day job, not to mention all the household chores, dealing with life in general, and hey getting a podcast out this week. The only moment of peace I've had all week were the few hours it took to mow the lawn. The first mow of the season. It's just me, the lawn, the mower, and what ever playing on my iPod at that time. It was bliss. Even though I was physically exhausted when I got done; mentally I was relaxed. Well, up until the time my son lost his key that he in his possession just mere moments before. Sigh. Hurry up lawn and grow. I need to mow.

You would think that getting a new house would be a fairly straight forward process; you determine what you want, get a list of homes that fit that criteria and then you select one. In practice, it is a chaotic and confusing fall down a rabbit hole of increasingly complex legal and financial requirements spinning around your head like angry bees, waiting to swoop in and sting you if you make a single mistake; while at the same time trying to arrange to visit with increasingly annoyed sellers who don't want to have to stop watching jeopardy so you can see the home that they claim they want to sell. Hello this is your guest host Chad Henderson, and as you can tell, I am trying to find a home.

A very big thank you to Chad for filling in for me this week. Please feel free to check out his podcast, ElmoCast. I'll be back next week with an all new episode. - Kevin

When I started doing some preliminary work last night for this week's podcast there was a few inches of snow on the ground. Now as I'm recording this, I look out the home office window, and I hardly see any snow except for a few shady spots. It's amazing how Oklahoma's weather works. Really nice day Friday, blizzard Saturday, nice day Sunday. But that is the old running gag here in the state, isn't it. If you don't like the weather wait a minute. That was very much true this weekend wasn't it.

Now that my body's internal sense of time is all messed up due to daylight saving time, I can honestly say I have no idea what time it is. At least my sense of the seasons is still working. The weather is getting warm, the birds are singing, the weeds in my lawn are starting to turn green, oh yes I know exactly what this means. It means Baseball season is just around the corner. The Grapefruit and Cactus leagues are training right now, getting ready for that all important opening day that's less than a month away. I've already installed the new MLB AtBat iPhone app, I have my new Cubs baseball cap on order and it should arrive soon, and I've double check that I'm signed up for DirecTV's MLB Extra Innings. Oh I so am ready for Baseball.

I'm happy to announce the Blog Oklahoma Podcast has won for best podcast in the 2009 Okie Blog Awards. Thank you very much for this honor. The podcast was up against some stiff competition, but in the end I'm guessing my forty listeners rallied to put the podcast over the top. Now this has gotten me thinking, there has to be more than 10 active podcasts here in the state. So over the next few weeks I'm going to explore the Oklahoma pod-o-sphere, and whatever I find I'll let you know know about it. Again thank you to everyone for voting for the Blog Oklahoma Podcast.
