As Olympic visitors arrive in Beijing, they are swamped with glossy pamphlets extolling the virtues of the city. One of them lists a number of temples, mosques and churches. What the pamphlet does not say is that they are all government-sanctioned places of worship. But many Chinese Christians don't want anything to do with the official churches. There's a new sexual revolution happening, and the people driving it are not exactly a bunch of free-love libertines. Many people probably think of evangelical Christians as being more preoccupied with denying the pleasures of the flesh. Christianity has always had a lot to say about sexuality. But now, in some cases, their attitudes and approaches are changing.

Calgary's boom has its dark side: the city's police say gang membership doubled between 2003 and 2008. There was also an ongoing rivalry between two feuding youth gangs in Calgary over the distribution of illegal drugs.

During the week of July 25, 2008 alone, there was a bold shooting in the city in broad daylight, two o'clock in the afternoon. Two young men wearing black hoodies walked up behind a third as he was getting into his minivan and fired several shots.
